West Somerset Railway Commemorates D-Day

4th June, 2024

On Wednesday 5th June 2024, the West Somerset Railway will be renaming one of their home fleet locomotives to commemorate D-Day.

BR(W) Manor Class 4-6-0 no.7828 known as 'Odney Manor' will be renamed Norton Manor for the day and will display the original Norton Manor Nameplates

In 2011 Odney Manor was renamed Norton Manor for a period of time in honour of the officers, men and women of 40 Commando, who are close neighbours of the Railway. Representatives from locally based 40 Commando gathered with senior WSR officials at Minehead Station on 17 June 2011 to witness the unveiling of the new nameplates on the locomotive and travelled on a special service.

For 5th June, Norton Manor can be seen on the 10.15 Bishops Lydeard to Minehead, 12.20 Minehead to Bishops Lydeard, 14.40 Bishops Lydeard to Minehead and 16.30 Minehead to Bishops Lydeard.
