80064 was built at Brighton in June 1953 and was initially allocated to Watford in the London Midland Region, before transferring to Dover Marine in the Southern Region in December 1959. It then transferred to Ashford depot in February 1960 and Tonbridge in May 1961, before it was transferred to Exmouth Junction in July 1962, following the electrification of the Kent Coast railway. It was allocated to Bristol Barrow Road in June 1965, before being withdrawn from service in September 1965. It was sold to Woodham Brothers at Barry scrapyard, arriving in October 1965 and remained there until 1973.

Following the purchase of the locomotive by the 80064 Locomotive Fund, 80064 was moved to Buckfastleigh on the Dart Valley Railway (now the South Devon Railway) in 1973. 80064 steamed again in 1981.

In 1984, the locomotive moved to the Bluebell Railway, where it worked for a number of years until its boiler certificate expired in 1991.

80064 is undergoing a heavy overhaul, with the main issue being the need for copper welding in the firebox.

In December 2023, the locomotive was donated by its owning group (80064 Locomotive Fund) to the West Somerset Railway Association and relocated to the West Somerset Railway.
